Meeker Way to open next week

The finish line is in sight on the Ohio Department of Transportation project to improve the U.S. 23 intersections with State Route 315 and Stratford Road.

The project that started earlier this year includes new turn lanes at US 23 at SR 315, the realignment of US 23, SR 315 and Stratford Road and the construction of a new roadway connecting Stratford Road to US 23 north of SR 315.

The new roadway, called Meeker Way, is set to open next week. Before that happens, the new traffic signal at US 23 and Meeker Way will be activated to “flash” starting Monday, a news release states.

By 9 a.m. Thursday, the signal will be fully operational and Meeker Way will open to traffic. That means both directions of US 23 traffic will have to stop at Meeker Way when the light is red.

After Meeker Way opens on Thursday, Stratford Road will close at US 23 for up to a month so crews can complete the final phase of the project. When Startford Road closes, the traffic signal at Stratford Road and US 23 will be removed. The detour for Stratford Road is Meeker Way to US 23 or reverse.

Stratford Road will re-open in mid-October, but will be “right-in, right-out” at US 23. US 23 north traffic will be able to turn right onto Stratford, but US 23 south drivers will use Meeker Way to get to Stratford Road. Likewise, Stratford Road drivers can turn right onto US 23 north, but will use Meeker Way to access US 23 south.

The $2 million project is expected to be complete the end of October. For up-to-date traffic information, construction information and road conditions, 24-hours a day, visit www.Ohgo.com.
