According to the National Weather Service, the skies will be clear and the weather will be warm for Jug Day.

After a rainy opening to the fair on Saturday the weather cleared up on Sunday and will be pleasant for the remainder of the fair according to the weather service. Wednesday will be sunny with a high of 85 degrees and a low around 60. Thursday and Friday will also be sunny with highs of 85 and a lows around 62.

Saturday will be partly sunny with a high near 80 and a low around 55 by evening.

Sandy Kuhn, the Delaware County Fair General Manager, said in an email Tuesday that the Sept. 17 attendance was down compared to years previous, in part because of the weather.

Kuhn said the 2016 gate receipts were 76% of 2015 receipts and 43% of 2014 receipts. Kuhn said this tells her that 2014 was a beautiful day and the opening days of 2015 and 2016 did not have weather as good as 2014.

Furthermore, Kuhn said the fair sold 3.7 times as many tickets on Sunday compared with Saturday’s ticket sales because the weather was nicer and drier. Kuhn added that Monday, which had fair weather, was also a good ticket day.

Kuhn said the fair is expecting that between 45,000 and 50,000 people will attend Jug Day.

Fair officials reported that more than 46,000 attended the 2015 Little Brown Jug; up from 2014’s attendance of more 44,000. The weather was also good last year.

This is the 71st anniversary of the Little Brown Jug. Information about races, tickets and the fair in general can be found on the Delaware County Fair’s website or at the Jug site, http://www.littlebrownjug.com.
