City offices Closed Thursday, Friday

City offices will be closed Thursday Friday for Thanksgiving. There is no trash collection on Thursday. Residential refuse, recycling and yard waste crews will follow the “next day” collection schedule on Friday and Saturday.

Galena observes old-fashioned Christmas

Local businesses, Journey Fellowship and the Village of Galena invite the public Dec. 4, 6-8 p.m., for an old-fashioned Christmas celebration. The event starts at 6 p.m. at Journey Fellowship, 70 N. Walnut St. Drop off a dozen cookies to share and enjoy a wide variety of cookies with hot chocolate.

The Galena Historic Foundation will give away coffee cups filled with goodies. Children can tell Santa what’s on their lists and enjoy crafts and games. They can also dress up and participate in the Instant Nativity scene. All events take place in the auditorium.

At 7 p.m. on the square, visitors can enjoy traditional stories, carols and the tree lighting. The village will distribute its annual holiday ornaments while supplies last.

After the tree lighting, open houses will continue at the Galena Diner, HER Realtors Murphy & Associates, Mudflats Bar & Grill, and Journey Fellowship. You may drop off a new toy at Murphy’s, 19 W. Columbus St., to donate to the local USO.
