On Saturday, June 4, the Ostrander branch library continues a three-year tradition of turning back the tables to the Renaissance period and celebrating the start of summer and the Delaware County District Library’s Summer Reading Club with a “Medieval Faire.” The activities kick off at noon and the fun lasts all afternoon until 3 p.m.
Back for another year is also the “Knights of the Rose” all-female jousting troupe. They will be giving demonstrations on horses at 12:30 and 2 p.m. Lady Apollonia and Dame Jessica have put on quite the impressive show in years past. Other ongoing activities throughout the afternoon include a craft area for children, a tower building and an open field for archery practice and javelin throwing.
The Faire also boasts quite an impressive market place full with food, music and more. Craftsmen — including a potter, blacksmith, soap maker and spinner — will each have their own work spaces and show how their art is created. Walk through the Ostrander branch lawn and listen to the sounds of a fiddle and guitar serenade you while you get to know the live animals in the petting zoo or the costumed “animals” roaming the grounds.
The entire Faire is free and open to all ages. While you’re at the branch, pop inside to see what’s new in the DVD section:

• “Dirty Grandpa.” Robert De Niro and Zac Efron get down and dirtier in this unrated version of the raunchy comedy about a wild road trip shared by an uptight guy and his foul-mouthed granddad.
• “East Side Sushi.” Juana, a working-class, single mother, decides to take a job at a local Japanese restaurant. Against all odds, she fights to achieve her dream of becoming a sushi chef.
• “The Finest Hours. When a massive winter storm traps more than 30 sailors on a fast-sinking ship, four U.S. Coast Guard members set out to rescue them in a 12-seat boat, braving 60-foot waves and hurricane-force winds, in a heroic action-thriller based on a true story.
• “Mustang.” In a village in the north of Turkey, Lale and her four sisters come home from school, innocently playing with boys. The supposed debauchery of their games causes a scandal with unintended consequences.
• “The Program.” The true story of the meteoric rise and fall of Lance Armstrong, one of the most celebrated and controversial men in recent history.
• “Risen.” The epic Biblical story of the Resurrection, as told through the eyes of a non-believer.
• “Where to Invade Next.” Michael Moore directs a provocative comedy in which he will stop at nothing to figure out how to actually make America great again.
