SourcePoint seeks volunteers
SourcePoint is currently seeking volunteers to pick up and deliver hot, nutritious meals to Delaware County residents. Volunteers work directly with SourcePoint’s Meals on Wheels program to provide a vital service to older adults who are unable to prepare meals for themselves. Drivers are eligible for mileage reimbursement and a free meal.
In addition to Meals on Wheels drivers, SourcePoint is also seeking drivers to assist with its medical transportation program, in which trained volunteers drive in-home care clients to and from important medical appointments. Drivers are eligible for mileage reimbursement.
Volunteer drivers are required to show proof of a valid driver’s license, proof of current auto insurance, and receive a criminal background check. Orientation and training are provided for new volunteers.
Local residents of all ages are encouraged to volunteer, whether for just one day or for an ongoing experience, in order to make a difference in the lives of older adults in Delaware County. Better Roads group hosts meet-and-greet
The citizen-led committee that supports the roads improvement levy on November’s ballot is planning a meet-and-greet event on Tuesday, Sept. 13. The gathering will be held at Amato’s Woodfired Pizza at 6 S. Sandusky St., Delaware, from 5 to 7 p.m.
“People have been asking us who we are, wondering whether we are city employees and why we are supporting this levy,” said Jim Browning, co-chair of Better Roads for Delaware (BRFD). “We’re volunteers,” Browning said, “and we believe that our community needs the improvements that the levy funding will provide.”
The meet-and-greet will give Delaware residents a chance to meet the committee members, learn about the issues, and explore whether they might want to get involved.
“We need volunteers to help with simple tasks like sharing Facebook stories, delivering yard signs to homes that request them, handing out materials at First Friday and other community events, and making calls to outreach to local civic and community groups,” said Stephanie Steinbeck, BRFD co-chair. “Our committee has worked very hard at fundraising, and we have a strong strategy in place. Now we need local residents who are willing to give us an hour or two of their time to help spread the word and create awareness.”
Appetizers will be provided, and there is no obligation to volunteer.
Delaware City Schools hosting Child Check
Delaware City Schools is hosting its annual Child Check on Friday, Sept. 16. Child Check is a free developmental screening for children from birth through age 5. Areas to be assessed include language, motor skills, and general concepts. Parents are also given the opportunity to provide a brief health history and fill out a questionnaire regarding their child’s social-emotional development.
