Frank Dantonio defeated incumbent Leo Wilhelm on Tuesday for a seat on the Genoa Township board of trustees.
Unofficial results indicate Dantonio had 4,038 votes, while Wilhelm had 2,510.
Wilhelm was appointed to the seat less than a year ago.
Dantonio, whose brother is Michigan State head football coach Mark Dantonio, has said one of his top goals is to prevent the township from becoming overpopulated.
Dantonio is a former member of the Big Walnut Board of Education.
