The Buckeye Valley boys soccer team kept host and state-ranked Worthington Christian off the board for the first 20 minutes or so, but couldn’t get much going on the offensive end on the way to a 5-0 setback on Wednesday night.
The Barons put together a promising sequence just minutes into the action. J.P. Seliskar dropped the ball off to Kaiden Coup, who dribbled to the corner and sent a cross into the box and back toward Seliskar, but his header was hauled in by Warrior keeper Will Garinger to keep things scoreless.
BV’s Sam Otto made a pair of steady saves to keep things that way, tracking down a long shot from Worthington Christian’s Matthew Yoder before making a sliding save on a through ball that sailed a little long. The Warriors finally broke through after that, though, taking a 1-0 lead when Baden Wood collected the ball just outside the box and ripped a laser past a diving Otto and into the far corner of the net.
Yoder scored a little less than 10 minutes later to make it 2-0 before Otto made another sliding save just before halftime to keep his team in it.
The Warriors added three more goals in the second half to smooth out the scoring summary.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Bekah Williams and Ellie Tiede both nabbed double-doubles to lead Delaware Christian to a straight-set win over host Granville Christian on Tuesday night.
The Eagles, who got 15 kills and 12 digs from Williams and another 10 kills and 12 digs from Tiede, won the first set 25-9 before taking the next two by respective scores of 25-19 and 25-10 to seal the deal.
Kyra Lansford was also solid in the win, collecting 13 assists on 28-for-30 setting. She also had nine digs and was a perfect 24-for-24 on serves with three aces.
BOYS GOLF
Big Walnut finished third and Delaware Hayes closed sixth at the fourth and final OCC-Capital event of the season Tuesday at Denison.
The Golden Eagles carded a combined 337 thanks in part to Logan Grieser’s team-leading 81 — a mark good enough for fourth among individuals. Ethan Krebs also finishing in the top 10, closing with an 84 to finish tied for ninth.
The Pacers, led by Owen Jester’s 88, finished with a team total of 363. Parker Steffanni was also steady, backing Jester with a 90.
OCC-Central Division
Olentangy Liberty had four players shoot in the 70s Wednesday at Apple Valley, including three with 75s to finish second with a 304 at the final league showcase of the season.
Carter Rutherford, Jackson Harris and Noah Andry all had 75s while Carson Meyer finished with a 79.
Upper Arlington shot a 300 to take the win and the league crown.
