Delaware Gazette publisher Nickolas Monico has been named chief operating officer for Wick Communications, based in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
While he was Gazette publisher, Monico also served as vice president/regional director of Ohio for Civitas Media. He oversaw 17 daily newspapers, 20 paid weekly newspapers and 20 non-daily products. He had been with Civitas since March 2015.
“I will miss the friends and business acquaintances I have made in Delaware,” Monico said. “The Gazette is Delaware County’s only daily newspaper and continues to chronicle the extraordinary growth of the county as well as the accomplishments of its citizens.”
Before joining Civitas, he was vice president of community newspapers for GateHouse Media, a role that gave him leadership over 250 media operations in 17 states.
Monico also held senior management positions for Trib Total Media in Pittsburgh and for Gannett Co. in Ohio. He held numerous publisher positions, in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York.
Monico attended Pennsylvania State University, where he majored in journalism/advertising. Monico and his wife, Marcia, have two children in college.
Sherry Fisher remains The Gazette’s general manager and media sales director.
