BREAKING NEWS: Liberty Township hires new fire chief

Liberty Township trustees, in a special session Wednesday morning, hired Thomas O’Brien of Newark to be the township’s new fire chief.

O’Brien is a 31-year veteran of the fire service who has worked his way up through the ranks from firefighter to assistant fire chief. His start date is Feb. 27.

Former Fire Chief Tim Jensen and township trustees mutually agreed on a transfer from fire chief to fire prevention lieutenant in a resolution approved unanimously by trustees on Sept. 6.

This came after an investigation was conducted into Jensen’s conduct as fire chief last year.

William A. Fields Jr., a retired 34-year veteran of the fire service, has served as interim fire chief since October.
