SourcePoint, others fight senior hunger in March

March is a great time to rally around Meals on Wheels and SourcePoint is proud to participate in the 15th annual March for Meals campaign, a national event led by Meals on Wheels America to help raise awareness of senior hunger and isolation.

In Delaware County, activities are scheduled for March 15 and April 4-5.

Each year, SourcePoint’s Meals on Wheels program provides more than 200,000 meals to seniors and others in need in Delaware County, a news release states. SourcePoint’s participation in the campaign draws attention to the issues of senior health and safety locally, informs the community of its nutrition services, and raises needed donations to keep pace with Delaware County’s growing senior population.

”The services that we provide the seniors of Delaware County are critical and the need is rapidly increasing,” said SourcePoint’s Executive Director Robert Horrocks.

“Our ability to meet the needs of vulnerable seniors lies in the willingness of government, businesses, and concerned individuals of all ages to contribute in their own way. It not only makes economic sense to enable seniors to stay healthy and safe at home, but it improves the health and vibrancy of our communities. Together, we can keep our seniors living healthier at home and feeling more connected as they age.”

March for Meals Community Champions Event

March 15

On Wednesday, March 15, SourcePoint will host a special Community Champions event during which local officials and community leaders will deliver Meals on Wheels. This hands-on experience allows participants to drive with one of SourcePoint’s Meals on Wheels volunteers to see first-hand the impact of a hot, nutritious meal and a safety check on local seniors.

Boxed Lunch Fundraiser

April 4-5

SourcePoint’s third annual Boxed Lunch Fundraiser in support of Meals on Wheels will be held April 4 and 5. Boxed lunches will be delivered to local businesses and organizations as part of a community effort to support the program.

The fundraiser, presented by OhioHealth, provides a lunch for $10—with $5 going directly to SourcePoint’s Meals on Wheels program. This year’s event is chaired by Delaware Mayor Carolyn Kay Riggle.

The boxed lunches, provided by the Delaware County Community Market, include your choice of a turkey and Swiss croissant sandwich or a vegetarian wrap, as well as pasta salad, seasonal fresh fruit, and a chocolate chip cookie.

In addition to OhioHealth, the Boxed Lunch Fundraiser also is sponsored by Ohio Living Sarah Moore, AlerStallings, Inno-Pak, LLC, and Hiram Lodge #18 F.&A.M.
