Delaware looking to fill seasonal job openings

Have a son or daughter looking for seasonal work? The City of Delaware is accepting applications for seasonal part-time job openings in the Public Works and Public Utilities Departments, and the Parks and Natural Resources Department. Applicants must be age 18 with a valid driver’s license.

A pre-employment drug screening is required. Additional information and the on-line application can be found under “Careers” at delawareohio.net.

Oak Grove Cemetery clean-up

Oak Grove Cemetery reminds residents that seasonal and winter decorations should be removed from grave sites on or before March 15.

Galena cancels meeting

The village of Galena zoning and planning commission meeting scheduled for March 15 has been canceled due to a lack of business.

Program on poverty, drug abuse

The Delaware County League of Women Voters and United Way of Delaware County will provide a public program, Pressure Points: Delaware County Responds to Poverty and Drug Abuse. The program will focus on areas impacted by the drug abuse epidemic and compounded by poverty.

Local panelists will present information about social services available in Delaware County, with an emphasis on current strains on public resources.

David Hejmanowski, Delaware County Juvenile and Probate Court Judge, will serve as moderator. Topics and panelists for the program include: Food insecurity: Brandon Feller, President, United Way; Drug abuse epidemic: Russell Martin, Delaware County Sheriff; Homeless youth: Melissa Humbert, Salvation Army Regional Housing Director; and Teen moms: Courtnie Howell, Stable Cradle Advocate, Maryhaven.

The program, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Thursday, March 30 in the auditorium of the Delaware Area Career Center North Campus, 1610 SR 521, from 7 to 9 p.m.
