On Nov. 6, Delaware County voters will have a choice between two candidates for Ohio Fifth District Court of Appeals Judge: incumbent Judge Patricia Ann Delaney and challenger Andrew King.

Patricia Ann Delaney, a Delaware resident, was elected to the seat in 2006 and was re-elected to a second term in 2012. Prior to serving on the court, Delaney served as the Ohio Assistant Attorney General in the Environmental Enforcement Section and worked as a staff attorney for Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge Beverly Pfeiffer. She also worked as a private attorney as part of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease.

Immediately before being elected to the Fifth District Court of Appeals, Delaney served as a Columbus Assistant City Attorney for nine years.

Since joining the court, Delaney has been appointed to the Ohio Supreme Court’s Commission on the Rules of Superintendence, a commission that she currently chairs.

In this election, she has been endorsed by McKinley Lodge #2 of the Fraternal Order of Police, which is based in Stark County.

She received her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Toledo.

Andrew King, a Granville resident, is running for the fifth district seat and has served as an Assistant Delaware County Prosecutor in the civil division of the prosecutor’s office since March 2014. In his role at the prosecutor’s office, King advises county and township entities and represents the county in litigation.

Prior to joining the prosecutor’s office, King worked as a private attorney for approximately three years and a public defender for the Ohio Public Defender’s Office. King served as a judicial law clerk for Fourth District Court of Appeals Judge Roger L. Kline.

King studied at The Ohio State University for his undergraduate degree and received his law degree from Capital University Law School.

King is also a board member of the Granville Township Board of Zoning Appeals and is a Den Leader with the Boy Scouts of America.

In this election, King has been endorsed by the Buckeye Firearms Association PAC.

The Fifth District Court of Appeals presides over Ashland County, Coshocton County, Delaware County, Fairfield County, Guernsey County, Holmes County, Knox County, Licking County, Morgan County, Morrow County, Muskingum County, Perry County, Richland County, Stark County and Tuscarawas County.

Appeals court judges serve six-year terms.
