Orange Township to host Ohio State tailgate

LEWIS CENTER — Orange Township is holding its own tailgate and viewing party for Saturday’s Ohio State vs. Notre Dame college football game.

“Kick the Buckeye season off at North Orange Park with a viewing party on a 12-foot-tall HD video screen,” the township posted on its social media platforms. “There will also be inflatable activities where you can try the quarterback blitz or field goal challenge. Grab your family and friends for some cornhole, giant Jenga, or Connect Four!”

North Orange Park is at 7560 Gooding Blvd., Delaware. It is next to the North Orange Aquatic Center.

“The game will also be shown poolside in the North Orange Aquatic Center, which will remain open until 10 p.m. for Township residents/members and their guests,” the post continued.

The township said the Aquatic Center has had a record year of attendance. It closes for the season Sept. 5.

The party starts at 6 p.m. at North Orange Park, and kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. from Ohio Stadium in Columbus. No. 2 OSU is favored over No. 5 Notre Dame in the season opener for both teams.

In other township news, Orange’s Public Works Department recently installed new street signs in the Highmeadows Village subdivision and completed drainage repairs along the Lewis Center Road Bike Trail. Also, the basketball court at the Township Hall Park was resurfaced and repainted.

“Capital improvement projects are in motion throughout the township as we head into fall, most of which are funded by the 1-mill Parks Levy and the 0.5-mill Roads Levy,” Orange Township said in its September Newsletter.

“In coordination with the Delaware County Engineer’s Office, Orange Township is almost complete with approximately $1.3 million in road improvements in 2022,” the newsletter said.

Last week, Africa Road returned to two-way traffic going to and from Westerville. Africa is one-way westbound only from Alum Creek. Motorists need to use Worthington Road if they want to go to Alum Creek State Park. Those motorists coming from the Highland Lakes subdivision will need to use Africa Road.

“The Eastern leg of Africa Road and the Southern leg of Worthington Road will open completely, and the Western leg of Africa Road and the Northern leg of Worthington Road will only serve one-way traffic,” the township said of the traffic pattern change. “The overall Project is scheduled to be completed by late October to early November.”
