Olivia Margolies and Nhu Do combined for 25 kills and Megan Cochran had 13 kills to help the Olentangy girls volleyball team hold off visiting Bishop Watterson 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 28-26) Monday night in Lewis Center.

“(Olivia) never comes off the floor – she’s the person we go to,” Olentangy coach Michelle Mimna said.

The Eagles led by as many as four points trying to knot things up in the fourth set when Olentangy youngsters Margolies (sophomore) and Madison Chitty (freshman) came up with a kill each.

“Our team really got together,” Do said. “Everybody is really on their A-game right now, and that really helped me.”

Olentangy has lost to Watterson in each of the last three seasons.

“It’s a big deal to beat (Watterson coach Max Miller) because a lot of them play with him in club,” Mimna said. “He coaches the (Margolies) twins in club.”

Cochran tied it 21-21 with a block and Do followed with a pair of kills, each to tie the score down the stretch.

A couple of unforced errors gave Olentangy the victory in the final set.

Margolies led Olentangy with 15 kills and 3.5 blocks and Do finished with 11 kills. Chitty had a team high 16 digs and Cochran led with six blocks.

“Olivia, all the way around, is great, and when I play with her, we work really well together,” Do said. “She gives me something to compete against so I can work harder.”

Olentangy started 9-1 and cruised in the first set, but needed to rally in each of the next three, dropping only the second set after a couple of kills by Grace Schreiber paced a 7-1 run to allow the Eagles to gain control.

Grace Hetterscheidt led Watterson (0-2) with 12 kills and four blocks, Schreiber added eight kills and Kari Mercer finished with a game-high 25 digs.

Olentangy is right back at it in non-league play Wednesday night against Dublin Coffman at 7 p.m.
