The Buckeye Valley bowling teams got off to solid starts Saturday, picking up a pair of wins over Highland.

The boys rolled their way to a 2,123-1,807 win. Tony Ruark, a newcomer to the squad, led the way with games of 189 and 210 for a 399 series.

Other top contributors included Jimmy Davis (392), Jacob Moeslein (367) and Nick Cooper (355).

“This team has a lot of big games in them,” BV coach Madonna Wells said. “The hope is we can put those games together week in and week out.”

The girls, meanwhile, won 1,819-1,527.

Morgan Stuart boosted the Barons with games of 182 and 205 (387) while Carly Kelley (363), Fiona Tseng (281) and Tara McClure (278) also had nice afternoons.

After losing a slew of starters to graduation, Wells said this year’s group is surprisingly close.

“This team has chemistry, which makes them so strong as a unit,” she said. “We only had four girls left after last year’s graduations, but a couple more have joined our squad and they are fitting into this group nicely.

“Madi Shearer is the spark plug that picks them up when needed with her words and Fiona has filled a hole that we worried about. Morgan and Carly provide great leadership, Tara has improved already this season and Sydney Lenart is a hardworking kid.”

The teams return to action tonight against visiting Pleasant.
