All it takes is an observation.

First year Olentangy Orange girls soccer coach Tim Lawrence noticed something about Camryn Thompson’s shot and had her adjust.

That adjustment led to two second-half goals by the senior midfielder to lead the Pioneers to a 4-0 victory over Big Walnut in non-league action Tuesday night in Lewis Center.

“When she can get her shots on the frame, she can score,” Lawrence said. “She wants to float it … (but) she put two blistering shots on goal and the keeper didn’t have a chance.”

“I started off a little rough … but (Coach Lawrence) talked to me at halftime and told me to lean over the ball and I got a couple in,” Thompson said.

Thompson headed a ball off the post on a corner kick that was rebounded and put back by Camila Hall to give Orange a 1-0 lead with 29:41 left in the first half.

“We were persistent … it was not a brilliant goal, but more of a hard-working goal,” Lawrence said. “It was something that was valuable in the first 15 minutes of play.”

That forced BW coach Drew Pitzer to make an adjustment of his own in the second half. One that did not pay off.

“I pushed five forward to try to tie it up and we gave up a few late,” he said. “We didn’t play good enough to win, I’m not going to say that, but we were definitely better than 4-nil. That’s what happens when you push a bunch of people forward, they get some easy chances.”

Hall centered off a short corner to Thompson, who buried it to give Orange a 2-0 lead with 10:55 left.

Thompson scored her second of the game off a Taylor Foreman centering pass with 3:29 left to push the lead to 3-0.

Hall picked up her second assist of the night on a feed to Delaney Earl a minute later for the final margin.

“One thing I really appreciate is that we’re defending – we’re not giving the other team very many looks on the goal,” Lawrence said. “That’s going to be critical for us moving forward.”

Orange returns to action Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at Grove City in non-league play. BW is off until next Tuesday when it hosts Westerville Central in non-league action at 7:15 p.m.
