Officials from Grady Memorial Hospital say there have been no cases of the West Nile virus in Delaware after mosquitoes near Columbus tested positive for West Nile.

Missy Gleason, media relations manager at Grady, said the hospital has had no reports of the virus.

The Associated Press reported that mosquitoes near Columbus tested positive for West Nile virus May 27 in Grandview Heights, just northwest of downtown Columbus.

The AP reported Franklin County Public Health had dispatched spray trucks Monday night to Grandview Heights and would continue spraying in other communities throughout the week.

After the test results were revealed, health officials reportedly planned to move up their trapping and testing schedule.

West Nile is a virus transmitted through bites from infected mosquitoes, the AP reports.

There were reportedly 11 cases of West Nile virus and one death last year in Ohio.

Officials say residents should clean out any stagnant or standing water where mosquitoes usually breed.

The Center for Disease Control reports 70 to 80 percent of people infected with West Nile do not show symptoms. It can cause fever, headache, body aches and other symptoms in about 20 percent of infected people. The CDC adds that many people infected make full recoveries.
