The Delaware General Health District is taking appointments for mammogram screenings with the James Mobile Mammography Unit on July 23 at Buehler’s.

dghdlogoThe mobile unit will be on site from noon to 4 p.m. at the store’s location of 800 W. Central Ave.  To make an appointment, call the district’s clinic at 740-203-2040.

The screening process is recommended annually for women over the age of 40. To be eligible, you must not be pregnant or nursing, have no symptoms and never had breast cancer. You must be at least 35 years of age to have a mammogram. Women between the ages of 35 and 39 must have a written prescription from their doctor.

Mammograms are performed in the mobile unit in private by specially trained female technologists and interpreted by board-certified expert radiologists. The screening process takes about 10 minutes. Medicare and most insurance plans cover the cost of the service. If Medicare or insurance is not available, please call the district for other assistance in getting a mammogram. Women without insurance coverage who wish to self-pay will need to provide $135 at the time of their appointment.
