Heroin may be cause of death for ex-Delaware man’s daughter

A coroner in Virginia has determined that the stepdaughter of a former Delaware man died as the result of a heroin overdose.

The Virginian-Pilot reported Monday that investigators believe that Anjelica “AJ” Hadsell, 18, a Virginia teen who had gone missing in March, died of acute heroin poisoning, but police say they are still unsure of the manner of her death.

Her stepfather, Wesley Hadsell, 36, formerly of 28 Cheshire St., Apt. B, Delaware, said she did not have a heroin problem, The Virginian-Pilot reported. Wesley Hadsell was recently charged with possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and four counts of obstructing justice, WAVY Channel 10 reported in June.

The charges came after AJ Hadsell went missing in Norfolk in March. Her body was discovered in April behind a home in Southhampton County, Virginia, WAVY Channel 10 said.

WAVY said Wesley Hadsell isn’t being directly charged with his daughter’s disappearance but faces charges after he allegedly broke into a home, searching for his daughter, and interfered with a police investigation.

WAVY reports Hadsell is still in custody and is being held without bond. His bench trial is scheduled for July 8, WAVY reports.

WAVY added that a local medical examiner is still working on determining the cause of AJ Hadsell’s death.
