A Marion man is in the Delaware County Jail today after leading police on a brief chase in a stolen vehicle Wednesday night.

Delaware police report they received a call Wednesday at 8:20 p.m. about a reckless driver in the area of West Central Avenue and Euclid Avenue. When an officer arrived in the area, he saw the pick-up truck on East Central and obtained the license plate number.

After researching the plate number and registration, police learned the vehicle had been reported stolen from Marion.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of East Central Avenue and East William Street but the man fled east on U.S. 36/State Route 37 at a high speed.

The chase lasted about 90 seconds, police report, until the man crashed the truck into a fence at All Season Storage. He then fled on foot into a nearby cornfield.

Police say they established a perimeter and began to search the area.

The man, later identified as Billy E. Davis, 32, of Marion, was seen climbing up an embankment to the railroad bed in the area. When confronted, Davis picked up a piece of wood and threatened an officer and failed to follow commands. The officer subdued Davis with a Taser device and took him into custody.

He was taken to the Delaware County Jail and charged with failure to comply, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest.

Police report the whole incident lasted 26 minutes. Several area local law enforcement agencies assisted Delaware police.
