Last Saturday’s third annual “Glow4Hope” five-kilometer night run/walk was the last official 2015 Relay For Life of Big Walnut fundraising event.

Event organizer April Hayes said 124 runners and walkers showed up for the nighttime event.

The first three males to cross the finish line were D. Johnson, Keith Witthauer and David Bloomfield; the first three females were Katie Spiker, Tanya Kamalsy and Carissa Nickell.

“We’re very grateful for the support we get from the Big Walnut community,” Hayes said. “We could not put on a fundraising event like this without the help of our local business community.”

Hayes said Relay For Life of Big Walnut exceeded its 2015 goal of $52,000. By the end of the June 5 Relay For Life on Sunbury Village Square, 16 relay teams and 129 participants raised $54,786. Before Saturday’s Glow4Hope started, that total was up to $61,649.64.

The 2015 total could go higher, Hayes said. Area residents may continue to contribute to the 2015 Relay For Life of Big Walnut total via their favorite relay teams until the relay season ends on Aug. 31.

The first three runners off the starting line at Saturday’s Glow4Hope finished one, two and three overall. From left are second-place finisher Keith Witthauer, first-place overall D. Johnson and David Bloomfield, who came in third.
