OWU in Princeton Review’s ‘Best 380’

The Princeton Review has selected Ohio Wesleyan University for inclusion in its new guidebook, “The Best 380 Colleges: 2016 Edition.”

In the book, released Tuesday, Ohio Wesleyan is recognized as one of the nation’s best undergraduate colleges as well as one of the “Best Midwestern” schools.

For its listing, The Princeton Review surveyed 136,000 college students across the country – about 358 per school – about their educational and campus life experiences. It also surveyed administrators at several hundred four-year colleges, made campus visits, and factored in the opinions of its staff and its 23-member National College Counselor Advisory Board.

But in the final analysis, “Ohio Wesleyan’s outstanding academics are the chief reason we chose it for this book and we strongly recommend it to applicants,” said Robert Franek, The Princeton Review’s senior vice president-publisher and author of “The Best 380 Colleges.”

Overall, only about 15 percent of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges and only four non-U.S. colleges are profiled in the book, which lists, but does not rank, the 380 featured schools.

For The Princeton Review listing, OWU students also told surveyors:

• OWU’s 10-week Summer Science Research Program provides students “a rare opportunity to get paid to do research almost always one-on-one with a Ph.D., where at any other school you’ll be working with lab techs and graduate students.”

• OWU’s “Theory-to-Practice Grant Program” allows students to compete “for grants through the school that allow you to do your own research [and] travel to gain new experience.”

• OWU’s “Travel-Learning Courses” create “many opportunities to go abroad” for students, and with such a global focus, OWU also attracts “many international students.”

• OWU “students and faculty alike push for acceptance of everyone,” so it’s “very easy to make friends in this type of environment.”

• “OWU alums are very dedicated to helping provide employment to students” after graduation.
