‘Farm to table’ tours offered

The Main Street Delaware farmers market is offering free “farm to table” market tours to shoppers who are interested in learning how to handle, store, prepare and preserve fresh, seasonal foods.

A 30-minute walking tour will be offered once a month through October. The first one is Saturday.

“We’ve heard from shoppers that they’d like more information about the food,” said Frances Jo Hamilton, executive director of Main Street Delaware. “Our farmers are often busy selling so we thought guided tours would be a way to support both our shoppers and farmers.”

Tours will take place Saturday (Aug. 29), Sept. 26 and Oct. 24. Space is limited to the first 10 guests who register. Tours step off promptly at 9:30 a.m. from the northeast corner at the intersection of William and Sandusky streets.

The tours will be led by Janet Cassidy, a local cooking class instructor and certified master food preserver. “We’ll discover what’s in season, discuss food preparation tips and answer questions,” Cassidy said. “We’ll also talk preservation. Now is a great time to stock up on fresh foods to preserve and enjoy throughout the year.”

The Main Street Delaware farmers market operates from May through October each Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and each Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. Markets are always on the shady side of Sandusky Street between William Street and Central Avenue.
