Wesley Blakemore converted a penalty kick to give host Delaware Christian a 2-1 lead midway through the second half, but Mitch Rotondo found the back of the net twice in a three-minute span as Buckeye Valley rallied for a 3-2 non-league win Thursday in Delaware.

“We really responded well after they took the lead,” BV coach Eric Staley said. “It was one of those games when you really need your seniors to play their best, and Mitch and Sam (Scharff) stepped up.”

Scharff scored the game’s first goal off a feed from Rotondo in the 31st minute before Blakemore evened things up with his first of two goals four minutes later.

“We knew Blakemore would be their target man,” Staley said, “and with good reason … he’s a strong player. He got behind us once, but Zach (Fathbruckner) and Caleb (Herriott) marked him well.”

Caleb King finished with three saves in the Baron goal while Eagle keeper George McRae stopped 10 shots.

“I really enjoy playing Delaware Christian,” Staley said. “They’re well coached … great players and great kids.”
