Live animal shows planned by Preservation Parks of Delaware County at county fair

Preservation Parks of Delaware is offering eight days of live animal shows, crafts and games – even a coyote howling contest – in the park district’s new mini-park at the Delaware County Fair.

After years of occupying space indoors, the park district is expanding its programming at the fair, in a large tent just south of the fair offices and Arts & Crafts building.

Programs and activities will take place throughout the day (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.) Sept. 19-26.

Besides nature and farm activities with Preservation Parks naturalists, programs will be provided by special presenters “The Turtle Lady,” the “Bugman,” Ohio Wildlife Center and Central Ohio Wild Ones. Complete information can be found at, by clicking on the home page news story, and on the online calendar.

Upcoming programs offered by Preservation Parks include:

• Saturday, Sept. 19, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 20, noon to 4 p.m. “Railroad Fun.” Watch model trains travel through a miniature village and learn a bit about the railroad industry in America. Free; all ages. Big Walnut Community Trail House, 168 S. Vernon St.

• Monday, Sept. 21, 6:30 p.m. “Hound Hike.” Bring your socialized canine along for a walk with a naturalist. Getha Fine Arts and Photography is the featured guest. All ages. Shale Hollow Preserve, 6320 Artesian Run.

• Saturday, Sept. 26, 10 a.m. “Hike for Health.” Another in a series of healthy hikes. If this is your first, sign up at [email protected]. Hike is free; $5 fee for series T-shirt. All ages. Blues Creek Preserve, 9627 Fontanelle Road.
