Investigations still open in boating accident and fatal motorcycle crash from August

Decisions still haven’t been made about whether charges will be filed in connection with two fatal accidents from August that included a Delaware motorcyclist and a woman from Australia who drowned in Alum Creek.

On Aug. 2, 19-year-old Morgan Montgomery, of Willunga, Australia, was visiting Alum Creek Lake as part of a church camp trip and fell into the lake while water skiing and was hit by a boat operated by Andrew Lehman of Westerville.

Investigators searched for Montgomery’s body after the accident and again on Aug. 3. Her body was finally recovered Aug. 3, north of the beach and south of the marina.

Ohio Department of Natural Resources staff said no charges have been filed in the Alum Creek case.

On Aug. 4, a westbound SUV driven by Marilyn Fowler, 60, of 33 Downing Road, Delaware, turned in front of a motorcycle on London Road, according to Delaware police. Keith Estep, 29, of 16 Hedgerow Lane, Delaware, was killed when his eastbound motorcycle collided with Fowler’s SUV.

Police said Estep was traveling at 50 mph, 15 miles over the posted speed.

Investigations into both accidents remain open.
