The Big Walnut boys soccer team parlayed a pair of first-half goals into a solid 2-0 non-league win over visiting Hilliard Darby Saturday in Sunbury.

Tim Rumas broke the scoring seal, collecting a feed from Michael Kline inside the box before firing a shot past Darby keeper Matt Johnson.

The Golden Eagles (5-4-1) doubled their edge later in the half, scoring on a counter attack. Chase Geddis started the push, firing a pass to an open Michael Reardon behind the Darby defense. Reardon did the rest, finding the back of the net to smooth out the scoring summary.

The defense, anchored by Caleb Gibson’s eight saves, took care of the rest.

Hayes 2, Reynoldsburg 2

Brody Kannally and Ryan Krewson scored to help the Pacers to a 2-2 non-league tie Saturday in Reynoldsburg.

Brandon Becker had an assist in the win while Jonah Robinson finished with five saves in the Pacer net.

GIRLS SOCCER

Sofia Rossi scored the game’s lone goal, giving Walsh Jesuit, the state’s top team, a 1-0 non-league win over host Orange Saturday in Lewis Center.

Hannah Sargent did all she could in the Pioneer goal, collecting 14 saves in the setback.

Big Walnut 1, Hilliard Darby 1

Emily Neff scored and BW goalies Colleen White and Jordan Foxworthy combined to stop seven shots as the Golden Eagles tied the host Panthers 1-1 Saturday in Hilliard.

Liberty 1, Clay 1

The Patriots bounced back from Thursday’s tough loss to DeSales with a solid decision Saturday, battling to a 1-1 draw against host Oregon Clay.

Liberty drew first blood when Jordan Fike sent a through ball to Hailey Pickelheimer just seven minutes into the action. Pickelheimer beat the Clay keeper to the far post to give her team a 1-0 lead.

Clay evened the match on a counter attack just 20 minutes later before the defenses took over.

Liberty keeper Emma Campbell finished with five saves.

Also: Pickerington North 3, Olentangy 0.

BOYS GOLF

Liberty captured the team crown with a combined 304 while Kyle Mitchell fired a 71 to nab medalist honors during Saturday’s Delaware County Bank Cup.

Other Patriot contributors included Cameron McCloskey (75), Trey Rath (78) and Jon Flees (80).

Second-place Olentangy (318) was paced by Matthew Homza’s 74 while Orange (329), Big Walnut (335), Buckeye Valley (340) and Hayes (350) smoothed out the scoring summary.

The Pacers’ Grant Godfrey finished second among individuals, carding a 72. Other standouts included the Pioneers’ Spencer Gifford (77), the Barons’ Jake Kehoe (77) and the Golden Eagles’ Austin Schone (80).

CROSS COUNTRY

Another Saturday, another win for the Olentangy Liberty girls cross country team.

The Patriots, led by Gracie Sprankle’s overall first-place finish (18:06.67), won Saturday’s Strongsville Invitational with 85 points and an average time of 19:01.12.

Emma Bower and Claire Linn were also solid, nabbing top-10 finishes among the field of 200-plus. Bower finished third (18:08.59) while Linn crossed the line seventh (18:44.37).

Tiger Invitational

Hunter Moore led Orange’s boys cross country team during Saturday’s Tiger Invitational at Pickerington Central, taking top individual honors with a time of 16:01.89.

Brandon Morrow (fourth overall in 16:40.87) and Tommy Heiden (seventh in 16:55.93) also nabbed top-10 finishes for Orange, which won the event thanks to its 39-point performance.

The Pioneer girls, who finished third overall, and everyone else in action, were paced by Allison Guagenti, who nabbed top individual honors in 19:09.84.

Lindsey Ott (third in 20:01.09) and Zoe Bond (13th in 20:54.58) also stood out for Orange.

Big Walnut’s boys, led by Jacob Hutchinson (20th in 17:42.61) and Matt Halbakken (21st in 17:42.98), finished fifth in the Tiger Division.

The Golden Eagle girls, led by Morgan Hemming (34th in 22:08.19), finished eighth as a team.

VOLLEYBALL

Delaware Christian picked up a couple nice wins Saturday, handling Columbus Academy 25-22, 25-22 before knocking off CSG 25-23, 25-7.

Erin McCullough led the Eagle (15-3, 6-0) attack, finishing with a combined 24 kills to go with 22 digs in the two wins. Liz Sullivan was also solid, finishing with 10 kills and 13 digs, while Brianna Blackburn ran the offense with 45 assists.
