Sophomore outside hitter Brianna La Croix (Woodland Hills, Calif./Sierra Canyon) and sophomore outside hitter Iris Anderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Christian Brothers) turned in double-digit performances in kills as the Ohio Wesleyan volleyball team swept Kenyon in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Bishops defeated the Ladies by scores of 25-18, 25-12, 25-11. The win extended Ohio Wesleyan’s winning streak to a school-record 18 matches.

Holding a narrow 12-10 lead in the first set, Ohio Wesleyan scored the next 3 points on a pair of kills by La Croix and another by junior right-side hitter Shelby Ksiazek (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit) to get a little breathing room. Kenyon closed to within 16-12 on a kill by Schuyler Stupica, but LaCroix reeled off the next 4 points, delivering a pair of kills and following those with a pair of service aces for a 20-12 Bishop lead. A pair of kills from Alexi Donnelly kept the Ladies within striking distance, but Ksiazek delivered a kill to end the set.

Anderson had a pair of kills and La Croix, Ksiazek, and sophomore middle blocker Krysta Iwanek (Delaware/Hayes) added kills as the Bishops opened the second set with a 6-2 run. Kenyon was within 8-5 after a Stupica kill when the Bishops went on a 9-2 tear, with Iwanek and junior setter Shannon Schlater (Englewood/Northmont) combining on a pair of blocks, Schlater adding another kill, and La Croix, Iwanek, and Anderson adding single kills along the way. Ksiazek and La Croix closed out the set with kills to give the Bishops a 2-0 lead in the match.

Ohio Wesleyan had another fast start in the third set, breaking a 2-2 tie with a 9-1 run that included a pair of kills from La Croix, single kills from Ksiazek and senior middle blocker Meigan Day (Port Clinton), and aces by Anderson and freshman defensive specialist Nina Carmichael-Tanaka (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville). Anderson collected 3 kills, La Croix and Day added kills, and Iwanek contributed an ace to help the Bishops increase the lead to 21-7. Kills by Ksiazek, La Croix, and La Croix again put the Bishops on the doorstep at 24-8, and Anderson came through with the final kill to end the set and the match.

La Croix led the Bishops with 15 kills, with Anderson finishing with 14 and Ksiazek with 9. Schlater collected 34 assists.
