Hayes’ Grant Godfrey was as solid as ever during Tuesday’s Division I sectional showcase at Clover Valley, using a five-birdie performance to fire a 71 and nab an individual sectional championship.

With the effort, Godfrey will be making the trip to districts for the fourth straight fall.

Overall, Hayes closed ninth (342) while Big Walnut finished one spot ahead at eighth (335).

Godfrey will look to keep his senior season going with a solid showing at next Tuesday’s district tournament at Apple Valley.

Sectional Tournament at Darby Creek

Olentangy’s boys golf team wasn’t at its best during Tuesday’s Division I sectional tournament at Darby Creek, but Matthew Homza was certainly on top of his game.

The Braves finished sixth as a team, firing a combined 319. Homza more than did his part, though, carding a 70 — the second-lowest round among individuals — to keep his season alive.

Orange was also in action at Darby Creek, finishing seventh with a combined 324.

Next up, Homza will compete in next Tuesday’s district tournament at Apple Valley.

Sectional Tournament at Turnberry

Liberty kept its dream of making a second straight trip to the state showcase alive, firing a 305 to finish third during Tuesday’s D-I sectional tournament at Turnberry.

Trey Rath led what was a balanced Patriot effort, carding a 75. Cameron McCloskey (76), Kyle Mitchell (77), Ronnie Foth (77) and Jacob Hickman (84) also contributed.

Buckeye Valley was also in action Tuesday at Turnberry, finishing ninth with a combined 331 to see a solid season come to a close. The Barons’ Jake Kehoe fired a team-best 79 to finish one stroke away from district qualification.

Liberty will be back at it next Tuesday, competing in the district tournament at Apple Valley.

GIRLS GOLF

Liberty’s girls golf team kicked off what it hopes will be a lengthy postseason push with a first-place finish during Tuesday’s Division I sectional tournament at Royal American.

The Patriots, led by Sidney Kadlic’s medal-winning 73, finished with a combined 332 to edge runner-up Hilliard Davidson (335).

Other Liberty contributors included Kavya Manocha (79), Priyasha Kota (82), Camryn Calus (98) and Makenna Brown (104).

With the effort, The Patriots advance to next Tuesday’s district tournament at The Links at Groveport.

Sectional Tournament at Westchester

Alyssa Kim and Ashley Au tied for top individual honors, firing 72s to lead Orange to a runner-up finish during Tuesday’s Division I sectional tournament at Westchester.

The Pioneers, who also got contributions from Riley Dean (79), Brittany Miller (89) and Emily Fisher (93), finished with a combined 312. Dublin Jerome won the sectional title with a 298.

Olentangy finished fifth at the showcase with a 365 and, while failing to advance as a team, did manage to send a pair of players — Alex Cardi and Kara Raines — to districts as individuals. Cardi carded a 78 while Raines finished with a 79.

Hayes was also in action, closing ninth with a 397.

Orange, Cardi and Raines will all look to keep rolling during next Tuesday’s D-I district tournament at The Links at Groveport.
