A Delaware man was killed in Union County Tuesday afternoon after crashing into a tree just off of County Road 132.

Dead is Christopher Ball, 59. Critically injured was his passenger, Marcia Ball, 71, also of Delaware.

Troopers from the Marysville post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol report that Christopher Ball was driving his 1997 Chrysler Town & Country minivan east on CR 132, near milepost 2 in Dover Township, when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road. The accident occurred at 4:44 p.m. Tuesday.

Troopers said that, after the van left the road, it overturned and struck a tree before coming to rest.

Christopher Ball was transported to Union County Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Marcia Ball was also taken to Union County Memorial and was then transported via helicopter to Grant Medical Center.

Staff at Grant said Marcia Ball was in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.

The crash remains under investigation but troopers said they do not believe alcohol was a factor. Seat belts were worn by both occupants.

The Marysville post was assisted by Marysville fire and emergency medical services units and deputies from the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
