The public is invited to join the Delaware Kennel Club for a weekend of canine competition Oct. 23-25.

Events begin with an all-breed puppy match on Friday afternoon, followed by all-breed shows, on Saturday and Sunday.

The events will be at the Delaware County Fairgrounds, 236 Pennsylvania Ave.

Puppy match entries will be taken from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Junior showmanship judging begins at 6:45 p.m. and breed judging begins at 7 p.m. Saturday. Sunday events will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude in mid-afternoon.

This year’s entries are just under 1,000 dogs of 135 different breeds and varieties each day, and all will be competing for the coveted “Best in Show” awards. The club is again offering the National Owner Handler Series, best puppy and best junior handler competitions. These events provide an excellent opportunity for the canine enthusiast to obtain information about their favorite breed from a professional breeder, organizers say.

Portions of the show’s proceeds are donated to various local community projects, such as the Delaware County 4H Dog Committee, Delaware County sheriff’s canine deputies and the Delaware Kennel Club Veterinary Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund offers scholarships to qualifying Delaware County residents attending Ohio State University’s school of veterinary medicine. The 2015-16 recipient of the scholarship is Katherine Backus.
