Halloween events kick off Oct. 24 in Delaware County

Halloween is fast approaching and numerous activities are planned throughout Delaware County.

Sheriff Russell Martin noted that law enforcement officials want all residents to enjoy the various events and to be safe while doing so.

“Residents should see an increased presence by our deputies on both Friday and Saturday nights,” Martin said. “Two of our most important safety messages are for drivers to slow down and watch for young kids crossing neighborhood streets in the dark, and for parents to stay near their children or make sure they are trick-or-treating with a trusted adult.”

The Delaware Community Center YMCA is giving residents the chance to get an early start on the fun with the Mingo Park Halloween Party on Oct. 24. The party lasts from 4 to 7 p.m. Activities include trunk or treat, a free pumpkin patch for kids age 9 and under, a free hot dog meal, bounce houses, marshmallow roasting, live music and a costume contest.

Galena Village Hall will be the site of the village’s annual Halloween costume contest on Oct. 30. The contest begins at 7:30 p.m.
