Big Walnut’s boys soccer team capped the 2015 regular season in style, blanking visiting Hartley 2-0 Thursday in Sunbury.

After the teams battled to a scoreless tie by the break, the Eagles (9-6-1) stole the show in the second half. Chase Geddis broke the scoring seal, stealing the ball from a Hartley defender at the top of the box before finding the back of the net with 33:04 to play.

Sam Mason made it 2-0 less than 10 minutes later, giving Big Walnut a little insurance off an assist from Tim Rumas.

The defense, anchored by Caleb Gibson’s seven saves, did the rest to preserve the shutout.

With the regular season behind them, the Eagles will head to Delaware to face Hayes in the first round of the Division I district tournament Wednesday night.

Buckeye Valley 5, Village Academy 0

The Barons honored their seniors the best way possible Thursday … with a win.

Sam Scharff, one of eight seniors who were recognized, put the game out of reach with three unanswered goals, the last the 50th of his career, to lead Buckeye Valley (11-5-0) to a 5-0 non-league win over visiting Village Academy.

“These seniors (Scharff, Mitch Rotondo, Caleb Herriott, Zach Fathbruckner, Tommy York, Brady Perrine, Grant Veneman and Ryan Catt) are largely responsible for the rebirth of boys soccer at Buckeye Valley,” Baron coach Eric Staley said. “I am very happy that we could send them out as winners. It’s an honor to have coached them.”

Anthony Seliskar and Rotondo also scored in the win while Caleb King finished with two saves in the BV goal.
