Voters head to polls Tuesday

Voters in Delaware County and across Ohio will head to the polls on Tuesday to cast ballots on a wide range of local offices and issues.

Voters across the state will three constitutional amendments to decide on Tuesday. State Issue 1 is an amendment that would create a bipartisan, public process for drawing legislative districts. Issue 2 is an anti-monopoly amendment. Issue 3 is an amendment that would grant a monopoly for the commercial production and sale of marijuana for recreational and medicinal purposes.

Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the Ohio Secretary of State’s website, the following local elections are taking place this year across the state: mayors; members of city and village councils; members of boards of trustees of public affairs (in some villages); other city and village officers; judges of municipal courts (some jurisdictions); clerks of municipal courts (some jurisdictions); township trustees and fiscal officers; members of city and local boards of education; unexpired terms for municipal and township offices and boards of education.

The following is the list of candidates in contested races in Delaware County. Incumbent candidates are denoted with an “I” in parentheses.

The following is a list of tax levies, bond issues and ballot measures that local voters will decide on Tuesday:

Delaware Area Career Center — 1.7-mill renewal levy to pay for operations.

Buckeye Valley Local School District — $31.3 million bond issue to pay for the construction of two new elementary facilities in Ashley and at Bellpoint in Concord Township, just west of State Route 257.

City of Powell — Ballot measure to overturn zoning approved to make way for a 47-unit housing development at the site of the former Powder Room shooting range.

Village of Ashley — 5-year, 3-mill tax renewal levy to pay for road maintenance (will bring in $37,538 annually).

Orange Township fire levy — New 3-year, 7-mill tax levy to replace an existing 3-year, 7.5-mill levy passed in 2013. If passed, the amount collected from property tax owners for the fire department would decrease slightly.

Oxford Township — 5-year, 0.6-mill replacement levy to pay for operating expenses. The replacement will raise $20,183 each year for the township, if approved.

Genoa Township — Two ballot issues that would authorize township trustees to negotiate opt-out electricity and natural gas governmental aggregation programs for qualified township residents and small businesses. Electricity and natural gas are each separate ballot issues.
