Oxford Township approves operating levy

For the 10th time since 1990, Oxford Township voters have renewed a levy to pay for operating expenses.

Unofficial results showed 261 yes vote and 88 no votes.

The five-year, 0.6-mill replacement will raise $20,183 each year for the township.

“It’s very important,” said Trustee Steve Lewis earlier. “The revenue from this levy helps make up for (state) reductions in local government funding, while also being used for township maintenance, utilities, resident garbage pickup, regional planning fees and insurance.”

The levy will cost property owners with a $100,000 valuation $21 annually.

The township has had tremendous success at the ballot over the years, approving all 16 tax measures on the ballot since 1990, including the operating expenses levy nine times.
