Delaware City Council approves wing addition for Willow Brook Christian Village

Delaware City Council has approved an additional wing to the Willow Brook Christian Village at Delaware Run.

“We’ll break ground in the spring, and complete it in 2017,” said Willow Brook CEO Larry Harris at council’s meeting Monday. “This will pretty much complete the campus.”

“The proposed new addition adds 10 more units for a total of 239 units,” stated a city staff report. “The increase is the result of the demand for more one-bedroom transitional care apartments rather than two-bedroom apartments. … This would allow for consolidating the assisted living services in a more efficient design.”

There will also be an expansion to the dining room.

“We believe this to be a logical and necessary change in the evolution of Willow Brook as a leader of care services for the elderly within the Delaware community,” stated a letter to the city’s planning commission from Harris and Richard Brown, president of Brown Calabretta Architects.

The city’s planning commission unanimously approved the combined preliminary and final development plan on Nov. 4. Commission members praised Harris for the design of the addition and the overall beauty of the facility.

Willow Brook Christian Village at Delaware Run is at 100 Delaware Crossing West on the north side of West William Street, just east of Valleyside Drive. The 47-acre site includes 56 units in 26 duplexes, 76 assisted-living units, 99 apartments and two guest suites.

Council also:

• Heard the first reading of an ordinance that would add a new chapter to city code regarding municipal income tax. The changes are required by the state after the passage of House Bill 5. There will be a public hearing on the matter at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 23.

• Approved a resolution accepting public improvements for section 5 of the Communities at Glenross by developer Pulte Homes of Ohio LLC. The improvements include streets, water pipes, sanitary sewer and stormwater drainage in the subdivision, at Cheshire Road and Glenn Parkway. The estimated value of the improvements is $1,703,491.

• Appointed Eric Coss and Brooke Acker to the city’s Civil Service Commission. They will replace Jack Hilborn and April Nelson, who both recently resigned.
