Parks activities planned

Preservation Parks of Delaware County has several activities planned this month.

They include:

• “Holiday Evening on the Farm” — At Gallant Farm, participants will take a step back to the 1930s and celebrate the holidays the old-fashioned way. They will roast chestnuts over a bonfire, make decorations in the granary and enjoy hot wassail and cookies, and listen to the Delaware Community Chorus. “Holiday Evening on the Farm” is free to the public. It will take place Saturday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gallant Farm, 2150 Buttermilk Hill Road, Delaware. For more information, call 740-524-8600, Ext. 5.

• Photo contest exhibit — Photographs taken as part of the Preservation Parks photo contest will be on display at the Lodge at Deer Haven Preserve from Dec. 5 to Jan. 1. The photos were taken in various parks during the past year, and portray nature, wildlife and park vistas. All photos entered in the contest will be part of the display, with winners noted in various categories. Information on how to become a volunteer photographer with the parks also will be available. Deer Haven Preserve is open every day from noon to 5 p.m. The park is located at 4183 Liberty Road.

• Find the cardinals — Small camouflaged pictures of Northern Cardinals are hidden in and around the nature display in the Lodge at Deer Haven Preserve through December, and if children can find all of them, they’ll win a prize. While visiting the lodge, families can enjoy books and games in the nature library, and take a walk around the trail.
