The Buckeye Valley bowling teams continued their solid starts Monday, improving to 4-0 with wins over Elgin.

The BV girls, led by Morgan Stuart’s career-high game of 269, won 1,837-1,682. Stuart, who had a steady 194 to go with her breakout game, finished with a 463 series.

“Morgan has been on fire,” Baron coach Madonna Wells said. “She is averaging 205 right now and is carrying this team as we have a couple of girls who just need to get their confidence up. She is also a great cheerleader for the others.”

Carly Kelley backed Stuart with games of 168 and 177 while Tara McClure (305 series), Sydney Lenart (223 series) and Fiona Tseng (224 series) also chipped in.

The boys, who won 2,139-2,010, were led by Jacob Man’s 426 series.

“Jacob has been struggling, so it was great to see him pick up his game,” Wells said. “The boys are still focusing on shooting spares — we missed 18 makeable spares, which would have been an extra 180 pins. Luckily we didn’t need them tonight.”

Other BV contributors included Jacob Moeslein (336 series), Spencer Milligan (182), Tony Ruark (167), Jimmy Davis (168) and Nick Cooper (160).

The Barons return to action Wednesday against Marion Haring at Blue Fusion.

Also: Liberty (boys) def. Westerville South 2,172-2,105; Olentangy (boys) def. New Albany 2,283-2,207.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Buckeye Valley trimmed an eight-point deficit late in the fourth quarter to just three, but missed a triple at the buzzer to fall 41-38 in non-league action Monday at Hamilton Township.

Megan Veneman led the Barons (1-3) with 14 points while Kelsey Shearer finished with nine in the setback.

BV returns to action tonight against host Galion.
