During Sunbury’s Christmas on the Square celebration, about 40 children completed a scavenger hunt by stopping at area businesses and participating vendors to get a sticker on a card. At the end of the evening, completed cards were turned in, and on Monday a drawing was held for two bicycles.
One winner had a nice surprise. Last Tuesday afternoon, when she got out of school, Centerburg Elementary School second-grader Angelina Engle’s grandmother said she had to make a stop in Sunbury before heading home – and she didn’t say why.
When they got to the Sunbury administration office, Angelina discovered that she had won a bike by participating in the scavenger hunt.
Village Administrator Alan Rothermel said seeing Angelina’s eyes light up was a great feeling.
“Something like this is certainly part of Sunbury’s Christmas spirit,” Rothermel said. “It’s a very happy ending to Christmas on the Square when you can surprise someone with a bike like that.”
The winner of the second bicycle was Sara Peckham.
