Fertilizer certification session Jan. 15,

I’ve been enjoying this spring-like weather we have been having! The grass is still green and growing, and some of the flowering trees — crocuses — are mixed up and have budded out and even bloomed. It is a little colder this weekend and I’m sure that we will pay for the warm weather at some point this winter, but for now – I will take it.

We have scheduled a fertilizer certification meeting for Friday, Jan. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Radnor Township Hall in Radnor. This meeting will fulfill the three-hour requirement for applicators who need the agricultural fertilizer applicator certification. It is open to both current license pesticide applicators and farmers who do not currently have a pesticide applicator license.

Fertilizer certification is required if you apply fertilizer, other than manure, to more than 50 acres of agricultural production grown primarily for sale. You won’t need to take this if you hire a co-op or other custom applicator to make your fertilizer applications.

Registrants are asked to please bring a current soil test results. There is no cost to this three-hour training but pre-registration is required because space is limited. Please call 740-833-2030 or email [email protected] to register.

We also have our pesticide recertification scheduled for Feb. 15 at the Radnor Township Hall. It will be hosted by Harsh’s Farm Service from 9 a.m. to noon.

Ohio Soybean

The purpose of the Ohio Soybean Performance Trials is to evaluate soybean varieties for yield and other agronomic characteristics. This evaluation gives soybean producers comparative information for selecting the best varieties for their unique production systems. Varieties were grouped, tested and analyzed by maturity. Conventional, Liberty Link and Roundup Ready varieties were tested together and sprayed with conventional herbicides to allow for head-to-head comparisons. Conventional, Liberty Link and Roundup Ready entries are statistically comparable within a maturity range.

The 2015 Ohio Soybean Performance Trials with sortable tables are now available online at: http://www.oardc.ohio-state.edu/soy2015/ along with a PDF of the 2015 Ohio Soybean Performance Trials that can be found here: http://stepupsoy.osu.edu/node/46
