This week all branches of the Delaware County District Library will close in recognition of the Christmas holiday on Thursday, Dec. 24, and Friday, Dec. 25, all day.
This week also begins a winter break for storytimes in our youth services department. Though storytimes won’t resume until after the New Year on Jan. 4, there are still plenty of reasons to stop by your local library.
This afternoon at 3 p.m., the Powell branch library is hosting a cookie exchange. Much like our library cookbook clubs, you’ll prepare your classic cookie recipe at home, and bring them in to share, then swap with other patrons and the staff at the branch. You’ll have plenty to take home, but you can also fill your belly while you’re there. Be sure to arrive hungry!
Also at the Powell branch library, the whole family will want to make it out tomorrow to enjoy Mr. George’s model train display. This has now become an annual display at the branch and is always an amazing sight to see. The branch is open from noon to 5 p.m. and it’s only there for the one magical afternoon of awe and wonder.
The Orange branch library has something for everyone on Monday, Dec. 21. Even though storytime is on break, there will still be an extra special dance party at 10 a.m. for little ones. Then at 2 p.m., teens will have the chance to make a last-minute gift from the heart called a memory box. Bring in photos, personal scraps or trinkets and we’ll provide the rest of the supplies to make them into a beautiful box.
Finally, every Monday this month at the Orange branch, adults are learning some gentle yoga poses and practices from Julie Standish. This program is for one hour at 7 p.m. and will teach the basics of incorporating yoga into your life.
“Ordinary Grace” by William Kent Krueger is the book of choice this month at the Ostrander Adult Book Group, which meets Tuesday, Dec. 22, at 7 p.m. at the Ostrander branch library.
Finally, you are invited to give a meaningful gift this holiday season and give blood to the American Red Cross. The Delaware main library partners with the Red Cross on a regular basis and they are hosting a drive in the community room on Wednesday, Dec. 23, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can schedule an appointment in advance by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or visiting redcrossblood.org and using the sponsor code: DelCountyLibrary.
No matter what you do this week, do it with the warmth and kindness of the season, and have a merry Christmas.
