OWU swimmers solid at Bob Mowerson Sprint meet

Junior Greyson Goodwin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) won an event to lead the Ohio Wesleyan men’s swimming team at the Bob Mowerson Sprint meet on Tuesday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The meet consists entirely of sprint events in a long-course format. SUNY-Binghamton won the meet with 72 points to 71 for Ohio Wesleyan. Emmanuel (Ga.) finished third with 52 points, followed by Springfield (50) and Staten Island (38).

Goodwin won the 400 freestyle in 4:26.28.

Other standouts for the Bishops included freshman Ben Whitbourn (Norwich, United Kingdom/Wymondham College), who was second in the 100 freestyle; senior Andy Cumston (Marion/Elgin), who tied for third in the 50 freestyle; senior Bryce Uzzolino (Beverly Hills, Fla./Trinity Catholic), who placed fourth in the 100 freestyle; and junior Will Paull (Delaware/Olentangy), who was fifth in the 400 freestyle.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

Senior Emmalee Nerantzis (Rockville, Md./Home) won an event to lead Ohio Wesleyan at Tuesday’s Bob Mowerson Sprint meet in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Springfield won the meet with 90 points to 84 for SUNY-Binghamton. Ohio Wesleyan finished third with 76 points, followed by Emmanuel (40), Eastern Connecticut State (31), and Staten Island (23).

Nerantzis won the 400 freestyle in 4:56.42 and added a fourth-place finish in the 50 backstroke.

Other standouts for the Bishops included freshman Sam Curtin (Delaware/Hayes), who finished second in the 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle, and third in the 100 freestyle; junior Anne Edwards (Golf, Ill./Glenbrook South), who was second in the 400 freestyle; freshman Allie Niemeyer (Oregon, Wis./Stoughton), who placed fourth in the 400 freestyle; and freshman Beth Ward (Delaware/Hayes), who was fourth in the 200 IM.
