Ohio Wesleyan University has announced its February 2016 lineup of public events.
It includes:
• 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3 – OWU men’s basketball vs. Wittenberg, in Branch Rickey Arena, 105 S. Sandusky St. Tickets are $10 for adults, $3 for students, and free for anyone under age 5 or with an OWU ID.
• 2016 Republican Mock Presidential Convention: OWU students will create a GOP Party platform and select presidential and vice presidential candidates. The two-day event, which simulates a national nominating convention, will take place Feb. 5-6 in Gray Chapel inside University Hall, 61 S. Sandusky St. The event is free to the public. • 8 p.m. Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26 – Evening programs at Ohio Wesleyan’s Perkins Observatory, 3199 Columbus Pike (U.S. 23). Content varies based on sky conditions, but may include a planetarium show, observatory tours, and star gazing with the 32-inch Schottland Telescope. Advance tickets are $10 for adults, and $8 for children and senior citizens. Reserve tickets by calling 740-363-1257.
• Feb. 9 through March 27 – Sculpture by Walter Zurko and works from the Richard M. Ross Art Museum’s permanent collection, at the museum, 60 S. Sandusky St.
• All day Feb. 12 – OWU men’s and women’s track and field teams host the OWU Open, at Gordon Field House, 105 S. Sandusky St. Admission is free.
• 7 p.m. Feb. 12 – The 12th annual OWU Documentary Film Festival, featuring five short films created by Ohio Wesleyan students enrolled in the university’s Ethnographic and Documentary Film and Filmmaking Class. The film festival will be at the Strand Theatre, 28 E. Winter St. Brief discussions with the student-filmmakers will be held after each screening. Some of the films contain adult language and content intended for mature audiences. This event is sponsored by the OWU Department of Sociology/Anthropology and the Office of Media Services. • Noon Feb. 13 – OWU women’s tennis vs. Capital, at Gordon Field House. Admission is free.

• 7 p.m. Feb. 16 – Patricia Hill Collins, sociology professor at the University of Maryland, presents “From Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter: Gender, Sexuality and Black Social Movements,” in Merrick Hall, 65 S. • 8 p.m. Feb. 18-20; 2 p.m. Feb. 21 – “Artifice” by 1988 Ohio Wesleyan graduate Anne Flanagan. Eight wacky characters get snowed in during a gallery reception in upstate New York, and hilarity erupts over mistaken identity, secret schemes, jealous lovers, and financial ruin. Winner of three national comedy awards, Flanagan’s romp is a farcical take on celebrity and an affectionate tribute to loyalty and love. This play will be directed by Ohio Wesleyan faculty member Bonnie Milne Gardner and performed on the Main Stage inside Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens, Ohio Wesleyan employees, and non-Ohio Wesleyan students. • 7 p.m. Feb. 25 – Tiernan Brady, political director of Yes Equality and policy director of the Gay and Lesbian Equality Network in Dublin, Ireland, presents “How a Minority Won a Majority – The Irish Marriage Referendum,” in Benes Rooms A and B of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave. Brady’s presentation represents OWU’s 13th annual Corinne Lyman Lecture on International Studies. • 7:30 p.m. Feb. 29 – Campbell Scribner, OWU assistant professor of education, presents “One Room Schoolhouses and the Search for a Democratic Past,” in Benes Room B of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center. Scribner offers a reappraisal of the one-room schoolhouse and describes ongoing project to photograph the one-room schoolhouses still standing in Delaware County.
