Nick Hyatt continued his solid season with another huge game, drilling six of his team’s nine three-pointers to lead the Buckeye Valley boys basketball team to a 57-44 win over visiting Highland Tuesday in Delaware.

Hyatt finished with a game-best 23 points in the win, making good on six of his eight attempts from deep.

The Barons were outscored by a combined 34-32 margin in three of the four quarters, but outscored the Scots 25-10 in the second to sail into halftime with a comfortable cushion — one they maintained the rest of the way.

Grant Kelly, who hit the team’s other three triples, and Jesse Tomlinson backed Hyatt with 11 points apiece, Tomlinson adding a team-leading five rebounds and four assists.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Liz Sullivan poured in a career-high 18 points and the defense did the rest as Delaware Christian cruised to a 43-23 non-league win over host Columbus School for Girls Tuesday night.

The Eagles led 17-3 after a dominant first quarter and, with both teams managing just four points in the second, owned a 21-7 lead at halftime.

DCS outscored the hosts 12-8 in the third and 10-8 in the fourth to smooth out the scoring summary.

Erin McCullough backed Sullivan with nine points, four steals, five assists and six rebounds. Other standouts included Elizabeth Blackburn, who had five points, five rebounds, 10 steals and four assists; Maddie Morgan, who had six boards; and Brianna Blackburn, who closed with five rebounds in the win.

Hayes 41, Groveport 20

The Pacers continue to trend upward, most recently dominating visiting Groveport to pick up their second straight win in non-league action Tuesday in Delaware.

The win improved Hayes’ overall record to just 4-12, but the team is now 3-3 in 2016.

Kelsey Knodell and Brandy Bauer led the Pacers with 10 points apiece while Katie Blair added to a balanced attack with nine points in the win. Hayes coach Jim Morgan also singled out Hannah Rafeld, who he said played a great floor game.

BOWLING

The Buckeye Valley bowling teams picked up another pair of wins Tuesday as both the boys and girls knocked off Fairbanks.

“A few big games helped us get the win tonight,” BV coach Madonna Wells said. “We just bowled good enough to win. Hitting our marks and shooting our spares are our focus for the next step.”

The boys, who won 2,226-1,636, were led by Jacob Moeslein and Leo Wells. Moeslein finished with a 407 series while Wells rolled a 406 series thanks to games of 202 and 204. Jimmy Davis (379 series) and Nick Cooper (351 series) also had nice afternoons.

Morgan Stuart rolled games of 169 and 187 to help the girls notch a 1,665-1,345 win. Other contributors included Carly Kelley (309 series), Tara McClure (294 series), Fiona Tseng (279 series) and Sydney Lenart (261 series).
