Detectives from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman they say used a disguise to steal from senior citizens at an assisted living facility in the county.
Officials from the sheriff’s office said that on Jan. 14 between 4 and 5:15 p.m., a woman dressed in attire typically worn by social services or healthcare workers entered at least two rooms at The Inn At Olentangy Trail located at 6 Corduroy Road, Delaware, and stole a number of items.
The crime occurred while the rooms’ residents were in the dining hall.
Residents reported jewelry, more than $500 in cash, credit cards, driver licenses and other personal identification numbers were all missing when they returned.
Deputies report that the victims in this case are an 80-year-old woman and an 86-year-old woman.
Officials say there is video surveillance of the woman in the facility but The Inn At Olentangy Trail staff and residents could not identify her.
The crimes were reported to deputies the following morning. Detectives began an investigation immediately.
At least two rooms were entered, officials said, but there may have been more and detectives are still investigating.
Officials say that anyone with information about the thefts should contact the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office at 740-833-2831.
Deputies added that the woman may also be involved in a similar recent incident at an assisted living facility in Columbus.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media about the thief on Jan. 22 and the post had amassed more than 2,500 shares Friday.
