A Delaware County grand jury has returned an eight-count indictment against three individuals allegedly involved in a shooting and robbery on April 13 in Orange Township.
The individuals indicted are:
• Isaiah Dezjuan Steele, 19, of Columbus, who is charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, which carries a firearm specification that could add additional prison time if Steele is convicted; improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation/in a school safety zone, a second-degree felony; receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony; and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony.
Steele’s bail was set at $200,000 in Delaware Municipal Court on April 14. Court documents indicate that Steele shot and wounded 19-year-old Pierce Yurkoski-Gray with a handgun. Court documents state Steele also robbed 19-year-old Marua Burlew at gunpoint during the same incident.
• Terrance Dwayne Jewell II, 19, of Columbus, who is charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony; robbery, a second-degree felony; and theft, a fifth-degree felony. His bail was set at $150,000 in Delaware Municipal Court. Court documents state that Jewell assisted Steele with robbing Burlew and also punched her in the face, rendering her unconscious. Court records allege he stole a watch and her wallet, which contained three credit cards and $30.
• Kayle Marie Cantrell, 19, of Worthington, who is charged with robbery, a second-degree felony; and theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. Her bail was set at $50,000 in Delaware Municipal Court. Court documents allege that Cantrell assisted in the robbery by hitting and kicking another victim, 18-year-old Riley Smittle, and taking her iPhone 6.
Arraignments have not been scheduled in Delaware County Common Pleas Court.
Steele, Jewell and Cantrell were in the Delaware County Jail Friday.
The incident occurred just before 2:30 a.m. April 13, prosecutors said. Deputies from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office were called to the area of Holderman Street and Blue Holly Drive on reports of gunshots.
Deputies then received a call from a 17-year-old Lewis Center resident who said she and some friends had been assaulted. Prosecutors report another call came in shortly after, informing deputies that a 19-year-old man had been shot.
A fourth person was arrested in connection with the incident. Brianna Alexis Saleh, 20, of Westerville, was facing a charge of complicity to robbery in Delaware Municipal Court on Friday. Records allege that Saleh served as the getaway driver for the group.
She was not indicted by the grand jury on Friday and her municipal court case was dismissed. However, court documents state that her case will be presented to the Delaware County grand jury at a later date.
The 17-year-old girl told police that she was struck multiple times on the face and body, and her head was slammed into the pavement.
Deputies said that Gray and the 17-year-old girl were transported to a Columbus hospital and were treated for their injuries. Officials said Burlew and Smittle also received medical attention but did not need hospital treatment.
Deputies said Steele and Jewell were questioned in Columbus — with help from Columbus police — and subsequently arrested the following afternoon. Cantrell and Saleh were questioned and arrested a short time later.
