Barons use big 2nd half to sink Panthers

The Buckeye Valley boys lacrosse team got going in a big way during the second half of Wednesday’s game against host Licking Valley, outscoring the Panthers 14-1 over the course of the final two periods to roll to a 16-3 win.

Nathan Heiser and Trent Slavik sparked the Baron offense with four goals apiece. Carson James and Hayden Kaiser were also solid, each finding the back of the net twice, while Zach Garber, Tanner Morris and Andy Nero smoothed out BV’s scoring summary.

Nick Gerald anchored the Baron defense with four saves while Sam Herriott and Bryce Love also saw some time between the pipes, collecting two saves apiece.

Big Walnut 16, Westerville South 5

Sam Funston scored a game-high four goals to go with two assists and Campbell Allen and Connor Walzak had hat tricks as the Golden Eagles soared to a lopsided win over the visiting Wildcats Wednesday in Sunbury.

Judah Lozano (2 goals, 1 assist), Tyler Vojtush (1 goal, 1 assist), Michael Murphy (1 goal, 1 assist), Nathan McVeigh (1 goal) and Nathan Montgomery (1 goal) also cracked the scoring column for BW.

Josh Hageman and Josh Winbigler split time in the Eagle goal, combining for four saves in the win.

Also: Olentangy 16, Hilliard Davidson 7; Upper Arlington 11, Liberty 9; Orange 17, Gahanna 0.


The Golden Eagles cruised to a non-league win Wednesday in Sunbury, dropping visiting Newark on all five courts.

Nick Schulz won at first singles (6-0, 6-3), Stephen Pushkin won at second singles (6-1, 6-0) and D.J. Werner nabbed a win at third singles (6-2, 6-0).

In other action, the Golden Eagles’ Grant Bartlett and Mitchell Cholley won at first doubles (6-0, 6-4) while Hunter Rankin and Lane Davis won at second doubles (6-2, 3-6, 1-0).

Also: St. Charles 5, Orange 0; Jonathan Alder 4, Hayes 1.
