Buckeye Valley East Elementary student Josie Piatt is among the newest inductees into the AAA School Safety Patrol Hall of Fame.

AAA Ohio Auto Club selected Piatt and nine other students from more than 4,600 Ohio school safety patrollers, to be part of this elite group.

Buckeye Valley East Elementary AAA school Safety Patrol adviser Lisa Seely nominated Piatt for this honor with a glowing letter of recommendation.

“Josie is always enthusiastic and cannot wait for the next time she is scheduled for Safety Patrol,” Seely said. “She uses her authority to correct students without being bossy. In my opinion, Josie is the epitome of what a patrol should be and do.”

Piatt said she thinks she was nominated because she was never late and does the right thing, even when faced with problems.

“The number one problem I faced was kids going around me instead of across the crosswalk,” Piatt said. “I took care of this problem by trying to get them to stay in the lines.”

School Safety Patrol Hall of Fame inductees were honored Sunday during a recognition event at Huntington Park in Columbus. Hall of Fame students and advisers received free game tickets and certificates for their achievements.

The AAA School Safety Patrol was founded in 1920, and is the largest safety program in the world, according to AAA.

Each year, AAA Ohio Auto Club selects up to 10 school safety patrol students to be part of the AAA School Safety Patrol Hall of Fame, as a way to acknowledge top patrol students who exemplify the spirit and purpose of the AAA School Safety Patrol.
