Crash claims 2 lives

A two-vehicle crash in Morrow County took the lives of two Mount Vernon residents Thursday morning. The two-vehicle collision occurred about 8:10 a.m. on State Route 229 near County Road 221, west of Marengo. Dead are David L. Rothged, 48, and Karri S. Shira, 25. Their vehicles collided head-on, state troopers said. The crash remains under investigation. As a result of the severe damage and deaths, the Ohio Department of Transportation closed State Route 229 in both directions between U.S. 42 and State Route 61 for much of Thursday morning.
