Lewis Center man killed in crash

A Lewis Center man was killed in a one-vehicle crash in Berlin Township Thursday evening, according to state troopers.

Dead is James Marshall Hindes, 19, of Lewis Center.

The Delaware post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said it is investigating the crash that occurred about 7:40 p.m. Thursday on Berlin Station Road in Berlin Township.

Hindes was driving a black 2008 Nissan Altima west on Berlin Station Road. He traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected, drove off the left side of the road, struck a fence, began overturning and struck several trees, troopers said.

Hindes sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

Hindes was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, they said.

Alcohol and/or drug use is suspected, troopers said, and the crash remains under investigation.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Berlin Township Fire, Tri Township Fire, and Delaware County EMS.
